Did you know that we’re located at 3355 W. Alabama St. between Kirby and Buffalo Speedway? This is a great location for the foodies in the office (so it’s good for just about everyone). It’s not uncommon for a group of Fortheans to head out to a few of our favorite lunchtime haunts every week (okay, fine, every day). As a digital marketing agency, our clients come to our office for meetings and they leave with a list of wonderful local suggestions, but why limit the love to our current friends?
As a future Forthea client – you can contact us now and set up a lunch reservation for your first trip to the office – you deserve the best! We interviewed several of our team members to bring you the inside scoop on where to eat in the area. Be sure to take notes and visit one of these recommended spots!
Local Foods in Upper Kirby
The Skinny: Local Foods is just one mile from the Forthea office and features a mostly healthy seasonal menu with locally-sourced ingredients.
Pro Tip: Stop by on a nice day to take full advantage of the gorgeous patio.
Forthean Advice: “Our office is located around some of the best lunch spots in Houston, but I must say I do like Local Foods. I always intend to try new things, but I always get the Crunchy Chicken Sandwich with a cup of Posole soup. I love how all of the ingredients are local and fresh, plus they have some of the best tea in town! You really can’t go wrong with anything there.” Roberta Higgins
Tiny Boxwoods off W. Alabama
The Skinny: Tiny Boxwoods is more than just a good brunch spot. It’s located inside Thompson & Hanson Nursery so you’re basically eating lunch in a beautifully landscaped garden (yes, please!).
Pro tip: Beware of the scary birds that stare you down while you eat!
Forthean Advice: “Tiny Boxwoods is a great spot for ladies who lunch. When we got to Tinys we love the steak and avocado salad, but our favorite thing to order is the chocolate chip cookies – they’re the best!” Kristina Vera & Hang Tran
Punk’s Simple Southern Food in West U
The Skinny: Sometimes you just need some good ol’ southern food! Sure, you could list a dozen southern restaurants in central Houston, but nothing comes close to the comfort of Punk’s fried chicken.
Pro Tip: Bring your appetite and visit on a cheat day.
Forthean Advice: “The best place to eat around the office is Punk’s. Executive Chef Brandi Key (@brandikey) is the best, makes everything from scratch and with a lot of love. Best food there? All of it, but I’m biased toward the oyster stew and fried chicken. The greens are the best I’ve ever had as well. The bourbon pecan pie should require showing an ID. I had them cater my – Patriots NFL Champions 2015!!! – Superbowl party and they’ll cater all future parties I have based on my neighbors’ response.” Jon Bowers
MichiRu Sushi in Greenway Plaza
The Skinny: Just across the street from Lakewood Church in Greenway Plaza is an unassuming restaurant in a small strip center. It’s easy to miss or get mistaken for “just another sushi place.” It’s not.
Pro Tip: They have a great rewards program for frequent eaters.
Forthean Advice: “Michiru might actually be my favorite restaurant in Houston. Everything here is amazing. I never ever get sick of it. My husband and I go so much, they literally send us Christmas presents. In fact, Michiru sushi might actually be the hardest part of my pregnancy. They have a rewards program, which we obviously take part in. We have been saving up points (dollars) for nearly a year, and plan on inviting a few close friends to completely gorge ourselves on sushi and sake as soon as I’m able to. Let’s put it this way. If I were to make a short list of things I’m excited about this summer: 1) Meeting my baby boy when he’s born. 2) Eating sushi at Michiru” Katrina Kokoska
Lankford Grocery & Market in Montrose
The Skinny: Lankford Grocery and Market is a historic hole in the wall featuring unbelievable burgers. You feel like you’re going back in time when you step into this old charming house turned restaurant.
Pro Tip: Cash only
Forthean Advice: “Lankford is always packed, but definitely worth the hassle! Large portions, friendly service, and daily specials make this place my #1 go-to…when I’m not trying to eat healthy (which is often).” Callie Arnold
The Menil Collection
The Skinny: While you can’t buy your lunch at The Menil, it’s definitely the best place to eat your lunch. The museum itself offers an amazing collection of modern art and a rotating exhibition area that changes throughout the year. It’s surrounded by a beautiful park filled with old trees so you can hangout on the lawn for a quick impromptu picnic after viewing the art.
Pro Tip: The Menil is one of the few free museums in Houston.
Forthean Advice: ” The Menil Collection is best if you’re going with a significant other or friend, but it’s great if you just want to relax alone too. It’s an excellent picnic spot with plenty of shaded grass and the Menil and Rothko Chapel are always fun and free.” Nathan Muldrow
