Free SEO Tools You Can Use Today

Free SEO Tools You Can Use Today

Everyone loves to get something for free, and some of the best SEO tools available won’t cost you a cent. If you are new to search engine optimization and looking for free SEO tools to add to your arsenal, this post is for YOU! Even experienced SEOs may find a tool or two new to them.

A few of the best free tools available are Google’s. If you are not using Google Analytics and Webmaster Tools, you should be. Google’s Adwords Keyword Tool is also pretty sweet.

SEO Tools for Keyword Research

The Adwords Keyword Tool and other tools for keyword research have improved tremendously in the last few years. Imagine working with the limited data available in the past through tools such as Overture.

Older Keyword Tool

Compare that with data available through Google’s Adwords Keyword Tool today.

Free Keyword Tool from Google

Google doesn’t require you to have an active Adwords account to use the keyword tool; you won’t even need to log in unless you want the full data available.

Aaron Wall’s SEO Book offers an excellent tool for keyword research.  You’ll need to register an account and log in to use it, but it’s free.  You can also use the free version of Wordtracker to get keyword ideas and relative search volume. Need more ideas? Try Wordstream.

Ready to do competitor analysis? A few handy plugins include SEO for Firefox and SEOquake toolbar.

Looking for groups of keywords to help create themes? Log into the Google Adwords Keyword Tool and try the beta version of Ad Group Ideas.

Free Tools for Linkbuilding & More

Search queries can be helpful when building links. A couple of tools to help you with queries include the Link Search Tool at SoloSEO and the Search Combination Tool at Internet Marketing Ninjas. (Note: When using the Search Combination Tool, right click on a query and open in a new tab so you don’t lose your lists.)

You can find lots of free tools to help you build and manage links. One is Open Site Explorer. Link Diagnosis, a Firefox add-on, can be helpful in mining competitor backlinks. If you want to check for broken links, try Xenu’s Link Sleuth. Instead of listing any more, I’ll point you to a list at SEO Book.

Want to quickly see if a website is returning a 301 or 302 redirect? Use a Server Header Checker.

Need to quickly see indexed pages, nofollows, backlinks and more? Quirk offers the free SearchStatus Firefox add-on.

These are only a few of the free SEO tools available online. You can also find a multitude of lists of free tools with a simple search. Try them all and see what works best for you.
