Forthea Friday – Topgolf, SearchHou, and Jams!

August is just so slammed with Forthea goodness that we decided to post a second Forthea Friday this month. Now, I know that might be more than some of you can handle, but I assure you, you’re in capable hands.

So, you may be asking yourself out loud, what, is so important that it required a follow up blog post? I mean, just last week we announced that we made Inc. 5000 list (#1883, thanks for asking), and heard from a few of our travelling specialists visiting  both Google headquarters and Montreal, so how can we possibly top that?

Well, first of all, I’d say you’re being a pretty demanding reader right now, but second, I would answer with a single (compound) word: Topgolf.

Earlier this week, Forthea threw a special Google Partners event at the Topgolf in Katy. We flew out a couple of our Google representatives to give an exclusive presentation on digital marketing in the auto sector. With smartphones changing how potential buyers approach buying a car, it’s vital that dealerships stay ahead of the competition! Our VP of Operations & Client Services, Nick Lindauer, followed that up with a deep dive into how to leverage those trends and gave tactical advice to the audience. We followed up those presentations with a great lunch celebrating Forthea’s 9th anniversary! We had clients, prospects, and partners join us to have a free lunch, play some Topgolf, and talk with our Google representatives. All in all, it was a great day, a great event and we’re already planning our next event, so keep your ear to the ground for that invite! They say a picture is worth a bunch of words, but one of my faults is prose leaning towards the prolix, so my apologies for burying the lead here. Anyway, to the gallery of the Forthea Topgolf Event!

Not to be outdone, our lead developer, Chad Ostroff was asked to speak to the searchHOU Meetup Group. Forthea is no stranger to searchHou, as Davis Baker was also asked to give a presentation there a few months ago. The group offers a place for knowledge sharing among search marketing professionals in Houston.

Chad spoke to the group about PPC & landing page optimization. That’s a topic we’ve been very interested in lately at Forthea. In fact, we published a blog post on A/B testing and landing page optimization just last month.

We may post the full presentation on the site later in the month, but here’s just a brief description of what Chad spoke on:

As PPC specialists, we tend to focus too much on optimizations on the ad level, without much focus on where we’re sending clients. Instead of putting all your time in AdWords, work with your site developers to increase conversions through systematically testing your landing pages in real-time. By leveraging your server to perform instant split level testing, you can produce measurable results for even the most minute changes on your landing pages.

Chad regaled the audience with the charisma and charm of a typical web developer (kidding, kidding). He did a great job and caught him presenting for a few action shots.

Lastly (phew!), I teamed up with my colleague Roberta for a quick lunchtime brownbag session (we call them Jams) where we caught up the Forthea team on everything we learned from our time at MozCon in August. It was such a great conference, it was hard to boil everything from 3 days of digital marketing goodness into one hour, but I think we managed okay. If nothing else, everyone got a free sandwich from Relish!

Nick is the vice president, client services and operations at Forthea. He’s been working in internet marketing since 2002, when – ironically – he answered an ad in the newspaper. When he’s not at work, he’s off spending time with his family, working on his house, building furniture, cooking on his two Big Green Eggs & brewing hot sauce.
