You’ve hopefully already read Part 1 of this and if not make sure to give a quick read here.
So back to why your website just isn’t’ working.
3) Complicated and Confusing Navigation
I really like to stick with a simple navigation structure.
The reason why is the website visitor gets too overwhelmed and they leave; they find another website that is easier to navigate. Sometimes you don’t want to give too
much information, you want to give them the important highlights, and then have them contact you.
You want to use words in your navigation that visitors understand. Like home, free tips,
services, or contact us. When you use language like this, people understand what you want
them to do. It’s also good to have a plan for your navigation. Come up with a site map which could be just a simple word document, where you’re just going step by step through your website, and outlining how you want the visitor to view your website.
You want to start at the very top and to start with what you want them to look at first. Then work your way down. That’s how your navigation structure should follow.
There are only three to five seconds to make an impression and capture your visitor’s
attention. It is important on how you do this. Coming up with a simple, easy to use site that directs them to where you want them to go will keep your visitor on your site.
I go to so many sites and just click away within three to five seconds like the rule says. So if
you use these tips, you will definitely be able to leave a lasting impression. The point is: Don’t just keep building on your navigation.
4) No Automation
Now what I mean by website automation is there are services that you can use to set up what is called an Autoresponder. You can automate when people contact you through your
How much time do you spend answering e-mails of potential clients with the same answer?
Wouldn’t it be nice to come up with the Autoresponder that would then be sent out to anyone who contacted you as a potential client? Autoresponders save time. I know many business owners are looking for ways to cut down on their time spent answering emails. E-mails really do take up a big majority of our time.
Automation is such a great tool to use and your website can help you do that. Another benefit, automating your website provides a professional look and Autoresponders make the customer feel important instantly.
When you receive an e-mail back instantly upon submitting an inquiry, you feel they’re taking notice, they want my business, you know you feel important and I think that’s something to think about.
What you need to do is write the copy for these automatic e-mails. If you break it down and you decide: Okay, I want an Autoresponder for when people contact me. Then you write the copy and set it up in your automatic system. Your Autoresponder is sent out when any one fills out your contact form. And that’s just a very helpful tool so you don’t feel like you have to get to those e-mails instantly; you’re sort of given a little bit of a time frame to work with.
Then you need to do is set up an e-mail Autoresponder system. There are many systems out there and I usually recommend two of them to my clients. It just depends on your needs as to which one is better. I usually ask clients these different questions:
- Are you going to sell a product?
- Are you going to have a need for selling a product in the future?
- Do you have a lot of e-mail addresses that are Yahoo?
- Do you have mainly business e-mail addresses?
The reason why these questions are important is because the different services I recommend do things better. Each of them has their own strengths. One really works well at e-mail deliver-ability. Their deliver-ability stats are 99%. The other one is a shopping cart integrated within an e-mail Autoresponder system.
So if you ever want to sell products, you can upgrade instantly to selling products and it’s all in one.
The one that is integrated with the shopping cart is called Infusionsoft. This is a great service for integrating your shopping cart and your e-mail Autoresponder system all in one.
The other system I recommend is called Aweber. This is a good tool for doing
just straight e-mail Autoresponders. They also have a system that has templates for
newsletters as well. The reason why they’re good is they have a 99% deliver-ability rate. They do not have a shopping cart system integrated within it, but they do work with the other shopping cart system, just not as concise of a way as I would like, there’s more steps involved.
5) Don’t Know Who or How Many People Visit Their Website
If you are not tracking your website visitors, you don’t know what is or isn’t working on your website. The number one thing you need to know is:
- Do you know what your website visitors are doing?
- Do you know what their favorite pages are?
- Do you know where they’re coming from?
These are very important steps because you then you can take your website to the next level.
If people aren’t finding certain pages and you notice that the websites statistics for certain
pages that are very important to you are low, then we would focus on changing your
navigation. Change your navigation to bring that page up more to the front and add a special button. Those are some things that you could add after you find out what your website visitors are doing. It’s important to track your visitors and where they came from.
It’s important to make sure you always know what your visitors are doing. Learn when your website is working and when your website is not working. One way you can
do that is to take notice of the length and time your visitor stays on your site. If it’s less than five seconds, then it’s time to make some improvements to your website. A visitor less than five seconds on your website is clicking and then leaving.
I recommend using Google Analytics for website tracking. Google analytics is free and it integrates with Google Adwords. If you’re interested in Google Adwords, it’s a good
way to combine the two. Also, Google is very easy to use and very visual. All it takes is a little bit of code added to your website and you can start tracking your visitors instantly.
So in conclusion, the five reasons your current website just doesn’t
1) Not capturing your visitor’s information,
2) No website interactivity, just a static site,
3) Complicated and confusing navigation,
4) No automation, and
5) Don’t know who or how many people visit their website.
If you avoid these mistakes, you will have a website that will work for you in attracting
more clients and customers!
